Hello, my name
is Bill Demong and I grew up in the Adirondack
Mountains of northern New York State. From
an early age I found a love of sports and
especially snow. My first love was Cross
Country ski racing which I started when I
was five years old. I soon discovered Ski
Jumping at the nearby Olympic venue in Lake
Placid and it was a natural evolution to
put the two together and by nine I was pursuing
Nordic Combined skiing as a my primary sport.
Though I struggled in the beginning, hard
work and persistence have paid off and during
my career I have competed on 3 Olympic Teams
and four World Championship squads finally
garnering a silver medal at the World Championships
in Sapporo, Japan in 2007. This past season
I became the first American Nordic skier
to finish on the overall World Cup Podium
with a bronze medal placing.
Training for Nordic skiing in the offseason includes a broad range of endurance
activities from running and hiking to roller skiing and cycling. This past summer
I started racing my road bike as an avenue to ski faster and found a second love
that led to a full calendar of national level races including the Cascade Classic
and the Tour of Utah. When I am not racing I enjoy a host of other outdoor activities
like fly fishing and back country skiing, but training or not you are most likely
to find me somewhere outdoors!
I am currently preparing for my 10th season on the World Cup as a member of the
US Ski Team and I am aiming to better my last season’s tally of podium's
and overall performance. My career goal is to finish on the podium at the Olympic
Games in Vancouver, but I also want to leave a legacy of success for American
Nordic Combined skiers and enjoy every moment along the way. I hope you help
me get there by cheering me on and of course enjoying a cup of coffee to help
support the Nordic Combined Olympic Development Fund!
